On the advice of her aunt, Kavita Krishnamurthy had decided to learn music. Kavita, born on 25 January 1958 in a Tamil family, took classical music lessons from Balram Puri and at the age of just 8, mesmerized people with her voice and won an award. With increasing age, music became deeper and the singer moved to Mumbai to try his luck.
The most reliable voice of the 90s
Kavita Krishnamurthy’s luck shone in 1971, when she got a chance to sing in a Bengali film with Lata Mangeshkar. Singer and musician Hemant Kumar became convinced of Kavita’s voice and gave several live performances with Kavita, after which Hema Malini’s mother Jaya Chakraborty introduced the singer to music director Laxmikant. Kavita sang the song ‘Hawa-Hawai’ from the film ‘Mr. India’ with the duo of Laxmikant and Pyarelal and her luck completely changed and then the series of giving hits started.
