The 233-year-old rare Sanskrit manuscript of Valmiki Ramayana was gifted to the International Ram Katha Museum in Ayodhya, which will give global recognition to Indian culture.

New Delhi: A big and special news related to India’s cultural and religious heritage has come to light. An extremely rare Sanskrit manuscript of the 233-year-old Valmiki Ramayana has now been gifted to the International Ram Katha Museum in Ayodhya. This manuscript has been handed over by Professor Srinivas Varkhedi, Vice Chancellor of Central Sanskrit University, to Nripendra Mishra, Chairman of the Executive Council of the Prime Minister’s Museum and Library. This transfer is being considered a historical cultural step. This manuscript is accompanied by Tattvadipika commentary along with Valmiki Ramayana, which makes it even more special. This is not just a book, but an invaluable heritage of Indian tradition, faith and knowledge.

Rare Sanskrit manuscript of 1792 AD
This rare manuscript is from Vikram Samvat 1849 i.e. 1792 AD. It is written in Sanskrit language in Devanagari script. It includes the classical commentary of Ramayana and Maheshwar Tirtha written by Adi poet Maharishi Valmiki. Five major kandas of Ramayana are present in this collection: Balkand, Aranyakand, Kishkindhakand, Sunderkand and Yudhkand. All these incidents show the emotional, philosophical and historical depth of Ram Katha. According to experts, this manuscript represents a safe and rare textual tradition of Ramayana, which is rarely seen today.
Journey from Rashtrapati Bhavan to Ayodhya
This manuscript was earlier kept temporarily safe in Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. Now it has been permanently gifted to the International Ram Katha Museum located in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. With this step, Ram Katha Museum is expected to get global recognition. Common people, researchers and devotees will now get a chance to see and understand this historical heritage closely. This will not only improve conservation, but will also help in spreading the legacy of Ramayana to the world.

Professor Srinivas Varkhedi said that this gift will immortalize the knowledge of Valmiki Ramayan in holy Ayodhya. Scholars, devotees and tourists of the country and the world will benefit from this. Nripendra Mishra called it a historic moment for Ram devotees and the temple complex of Ayodhya. He says that this manuscript will become a source of inspiration for the coming generations and will further strengthen the roots of Indian culture.
