WhatsApp Strict Account Settings feature
Strict Account Settings : Meta’s messaging service WhatsApp is now going to provide a new advanced security mode to the users. This step has come at a time when many big tech companies of America are giving more strict security options to the users, although in return some features get limited.

ettings, once you turn it on, many additional security layers get activated on the account.

Under this mode, media files and attachments coming from unknown numbers will be automatically blocked. Additionally, the preview of any link in chat (i.e. the thumbnail that appears when the URL is entered) will also be turned off.
Also, calls coming from unknown contacts will be silenced. According to security experts, these three things often become the path of surveillance and advanced hacking attacks.
WhatsApp clarified in its blog post that even though all users’ chats are already protected by end-to-end encryption, some people – like journalists, activists or users with public profiles – may need very high-level security. This feature has been designed keeping such users in mind.

Meta has now joined the few tech companies that are offering special security modes for high-risk users. In the year 2022, Apple launched Lockdown Mode for iPhone and macOS, in which messages are limited to attachments, link previews, FaceTime calls and web browsing.

Last year, Google introduced Advanced Protection Mode in Android, which includes restrictions like ban on downloading apps from outside the Play Store.
According to cyber security researcher John Scott-Railton, this step of WhatsApp is very welcome. He says that this will provide better security to dissidents and activists and will put pressure on other tech companies to become more serious about security.
