The Statue of Liberty in the viral video is not the original monument in New York, USA, as social media claims. The statue in question is actually a 24-meter-tall copy that can be found in Guarapuava, Brazil. This copy was put up in 2020 and is part of a shopping mall called “Haven.” The statue is a decorative landmark in the shopping area.

Collapse Was Caused by Strong Winds

Official reports say that the replica of The Statue of Liberty fell down because of very strong winds during a bad storm. Reports say that the wind speeds in the area were between 80 and 90 km/h. The video shows the statue slowly leaning before it finally fell into an empty parking lot outside the Haven mega store.

No Injuries Reported

No injuries were reported, which is a good thing. After getting weather alerts, the store management acted quickly and evacuated all employees and customers as a safety measure.
