He has played the roles of broken-hearted characters, anti-heroes and survivors on screen for decades. Emraan Hashmi says that real life gave him such a shock which no script could even imagine. Long before career heights or accolades, one afternoon in 2014 changed his definition of control, success and confidence. Recently Imran talked about the most painful phase of his life. This painful moment was when his younger son Ayaan was diagnosed with cancer.
Recalling that day, Emraan Hashmi said that suddenly his normal life turned into shock. He said in an interview, “The most difficult period of my life was when my son fell ill in 2014. I cannot express in words what that time was like. It lasted for five years. My life changed in an afternoon.”
Emraan Hashmi said, “On January 13, we had gone for brunch. I was eating pizza with my son. The first symptoms appeared at the same table. There was blood in his urine. Within the next three hours, we were in the doctor’s clinic. The doctor said that your son has cancer. He will have to be operated in the operation theater tomorrow itself. Then he will have to undergo chemotherapy. So my whole world changed in 12 hours.”

Emraan Hashmi was badly broken
Imran Khan said that the sudden news of the diagnosis made this shock deeper. No warning, no preparation. Just one before and one after. Imran said that he was completely heartbroken. Life finally seemed stable. He said, “You can say that there comes a high point in your life. And it seems that now everything is under control. Then suddenly you get a shock. This happens.”
Emraan Hashmi was inspired by this incident to write a book
After this came a long period of five years, in which there was hospital gallery, treatment schedule and constant worry. Imran has told many times that that period made his life absolutely basic, leaving ambition behind and taught him only presence, patience and gratitude. This experience later inspired Imran to write a book, so that parents going through similar situations could get help. Today, when his son is healthy and recovering, Imran considers that time as the most difficult but most transformative period of his life.
