The echo of an old statement given by Rahman regarding communalism has now reached the political circles from the entertainment world. Maharashtra government minister Nitish Rane has taken a strong stance on this issue and targeted both the producers of the show and A R Rahman.
The controversy started with A R Rahman’s statement in which he mentioned Hindi cinema and communalism. Although Rahman always argued that his words were misinterpreted and misrepresented, he faced heavy trolling on social media. Recently, Rahman, who appeared on Kapil Sharma’s show, again said through gestures through a game that the biggest problem of the world is misunderstanding and spreading of information.

Strong Opposition From Nitesh Rane
Maharashtra Fisheries and Port Development Minister Nitish Rane has expressed objection to giving public platform to A R Rahman. Expressing his displeasure on the social media platform ‘X’, he wrote, ‘Freedom of entertainment is acceptable, but there can be no compromise with public sentiments and the identity of Hindu society. AR Rahman’s controversial statements have hurt national unity and cultural sentiments. Netflix and the producers of the show should reconsider the decision of giving a big platform to such artists. Nitish Rane clarified that Kapil Sharma’s show is popular in the country and abroad, but this popularity should not be used to promote people who allegedly do not respect social sensitivity.
AR Rahman’s Clarification In The Great Indian Kapil Show
Interestingly, in the same episode which is being protested, Rahman tried to clarify his position. While playing a ‘message passing’ game with Kapil, AR Rahman said that this game is a perfect example of how a thing changes completely as it travels from one ear to the other. He described it as ‘the problem of the world’ that how messages are misinterpreted and spread.
