The inquiry took place amid the tussle.
There are serious allegations against the previous BRS government of illegal phone surveillance and interception of politicians, journalists, judges and businessmen. There was a legal tussle going on between KCR and the investigation team for the last few days regarding the place and date of questioning. K Chandrashekhar Rao had earlier requested for questioning at his farmhouse, which was rejected by the SIT on January 30. After this the officials had directed him to be present at his Nandi Nagar residence on 1 February.

KCR also accused the investigating officer of “violating legal procedures” in serving the notice. However, on Sunday he appeared before the investigation team and recorded a detailed statement. Before this his son KT. Rama Rao and other close relatives have also appeared before the SIT in the same case.
Protests across the state and government’s clarification
As soon as the news of K Chandrashekhar Rao’s questioning spread, BRS workers started protesting in various parts of Telangana. The workers raised slogans accusing the Congress government of “political oppression”. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramark rejected these allegations outright. He clarified that the Congress government is not taking any retaliatory action. Their main objective is to provide democratic and transparent governance in the state.
